Homeschool Enrichment with Horses

At Valkyrie’s Kindred Keep, we offer horse-centered experiences for homeschool families looking for something beyond the traditional classroom. Children learn through movement, connection, hands-on activities, and time in nature.

Through guided interactions with horses, students build confidence, strengthen communication, develop life skills, and engage in learning that supports the whole child.

Whether your child is seeking enrichment, physical activity, or social-emotional growth, our programs provide a calm, supportive space to learn and grow.

A Different Kind of Learning

Working with horses encourages presence, awareness, and authentic interaction. Along the way, children naturally develop:

  • Confidence and self-awareness

  • Communication and listening

  • Emotional regulation

  • Focus and patience

  • Responsibility and follow-through

  • Problem-solving and critical thinking

  • Body awareness and coordination

This experiential, relationship-based learning is especially valuable for children who thrive outside a traditional classroom.

Support for
Diverse Learners

We welcome children with a wide range of learning styles and needs. For many homeschool families—especially those with neurodivergent learners—hands-on, sensory-aware environments can make a meaningful difference.

Equine-assisted learning can substantially improve the social and behavioral functioning and language abilities of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

We support neurodivergent learners (e.g., ADHD, autism, sensory processing challenges) by offering movement-based, non-verbal learning experiences. We can also help support IEP and ABA goals for charter schools and school districts in San Luis Obispo County.

Equine-assisted learning can support children who benefit from:

  • Movement-based learning

  • Outdoor environments

  • Reduced pressure and increased engagement

  • Building confidence at their own pace

  • Support with communication and regulation

Our approach is gentle and individualized, meeting each child where they are.

How This Supports Your Child

Physical Education Hours

Time with horses naturally supports homeschool physical education goals. Activities may include:

  • Grooming and leading

  • Arena games and obstacle work

  • Walking the property

  • Barn chores and horse care

  • Balance and coordination activities

These experiences keep children active while building responsibility and practical skills.
